Make challah, meet new people, do a mitzvah! Teens in grades 8 through 12 are invited to make challah with Penn State Hillel students at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Hillel building, Gutterman Family Center, 180 S Garner Street in State College.
While learning about Jewish life on campus from Hillel students, teens will have a chance to hone their challah-baking skills and also give back to the community! The challahs they bake are part of Hillel’s Challah for Hope program – which brings Penn State Hillel students together to bake and sell challah in an effort to raise funds and awareness for student food insecurity. Profits from the challahs go directly to the State College Food Bank. Through the Challah for Hope initiative, Hillel hopes to empower students to be involved in making a direct impact on our community at Penn State and beyond.
We hope this event will help connect Jewish teens with mentors in the community, and give them an opportunity to share Jewish experiences and traditions in a safe environment.
The event is being hosted by Penn State Hillel and Congregation Brit Shalom’s teen group. It will be supervised by Hillel staff members, as well as Jacob Frank, teacher and teen adviser at Congregation Brit Shalom; and Marjorie Miller, director of Religious Education and Youth Engagement at Congregation Brit Shalom.
Parking is available underneath the building in the Maxxen parking garage. Other parking options include the Beaver, Frasier and Pugh garages, which are close by.
Parents are welcome to attend.
Please RSVP to Marjorie Miller by Feb. 4: Marjorie.Stromberg@gmail.com.
