Listening Circle Regarding Current Conflict in Middle East

The last year and a half has been very difficult for Jews. With the conflict in the Middle East raging and the revival of anti-Semitism in many countries, many of us have felt embattled and caught between all sorts of values and loyalties. What does it mean to support Israel? What do we think about Israel’s military responses to terrorism and war? How does compassion for innocents fit into these questions? And where can we feel safe discussing these subjects as well as our relationships with Judaism and Israel? These and other questions have weighed heavily on our minds over this last year and a half. No matter what our opinions about the ongoing conflict, we have all been touched by its pain and complexity and find ourselves struggling.

Congregation Brit Shalom would like to support its members by hosting a discussion on this topic. We are a diverse congregation with diverse views, so the goal is not to reach consensus or change people's opinions but to help people feel heard, connected, and supported by an inclusive Jewish community. We wish to provide a safe space for people to share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences as Jews regarding an impactful topic that many congregants may not have the opportunity to discuss openly in other environments. If this is something that would be helpful for you, we encourage you to attend.

We’ll be gathering in the social hall around 9:30 and beginning the listening circle around 10:00.

To prepare and preserve our safe space, this meeting is for Brit Shalom members only.
