Join us on March 13, April 10, May 1, and May 22 as we consider some of recent history’s Supreme Court decisions. We hear about these cases but often do not understand the legal doctrines and issues involved. Under the guidance of attorneys Josh Gitelson and Barry Ruback, we shall examine these decisions. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
On May 1, we will focus on Rucho v. Common Cause (2019) in which the United States Supreme Court decided not to decide questions about partisan gerrymandering. What is the "political question" doctrine that the Court used to dodge this issue, and why does the Court regard partisan gerrymandering so differently from race-based gerrymandering?
