Alan Benjamin, an anthropologist in the Penn State Jewish Studies Program, will give a general overview of the Jewish settlement of the Netherlands' colony of Curaçao, their links to Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jewish communities and to Jews elsewhere, their internal tensions and disputes about social and religious issues, and their unique position on Curaçao and in the New World economy from the 1600s until today. Dr. Benjamin is the author of the book "Jews of the Dutch Caribbean: Exploring Ethnic Identity on Curaçao."
